This is good confirmation of what must have been a reasonably decent assessment of data proffered by the various wearable tech companies that have had their watches' methods approved by the FDA (or whomever in the USA) and by governing agencies in other countries. My Galaxy 4 watch was not allowed to upload the software from Samsung until the Canadian federal government approved of the app as a whole. By then, the app was available by about 4 months. I actually sent an email to the Minister of Health asking when they expected to approve the app. I got an email saying they had forwarded my question to the correct department, but I never got anything else. Next I knew, the app was downloadable according to the prompt on my phone, and from there, I went on to notify my EP that his first ablation had not worked. He didn't bat an eye...accepted the graphic ECG I sent his office at face value.

If only the batteries in such wearables wouldn't run down inside of about 6 hours if one were to set the watch to concurrent monitoring. I can set my Galaxy to do that, but I'd have to have it plugged in every six hours or so.

I'm not a math expert but this report seems to support the notion that photoplethysmohgraphy is reasonably useful to detect AFIB events.

Sorry, foolish question...
