I just want to share my story
August 19, 2024 02:58AM
Hi, I'm a 63 year old male. I had Afib and they said I have a leaky heath valve. My cardio guy has me on water pill and blood pressure pills, my heart was at 30%. My last visit he told me that when I come back he might have to restart my heart. I wasn't thrilled with that idea so I searched the internet. I found some people saying that Magnesium glycinate is good for the heart and blood flow. Also I was seeing people talking about Beat root . So with 6 months till my next visit I started taking Magnesium Glycinate 400mg and Beet root capsules 1400 mg. I returned to the Cardiologist 6 months later. He sends me for a cardiogram and I return a few days later for my results. He walked in the room and looked confused! He asked me what have I changed. I told him about the magnesium but not about the beet root. He says your Afib is gone and your heart is at 50%. My wife started balling and I was as shocked as him. He says he wants me to take another cardiogram just to confirm. The second time around the result are exactly the same. He said I have a heart of a teenager and told me to keep doing whatever I'm doing and he doesn't want to see me for a year. Funny everyone that has heard my story seems to be taking magnesium and beets, my family and friends for sure.. I have been planning to post something because I wonder if this might work for someone else. Let me know if anyone has tried something that has helped them. Thanks

Great result and a great story. I can sympathize with your wife who must have been fearful for months before the good news.

Magnesium due to depleted soils, and beet for the potassium and other phenols. Excellent.

I have been taking potassium supplements BID to keep my serum level at 4.5. I recommend coated capsules.

I prefer to do it through diet, Susan. I have to eat anyway, and do so two or three times each day, and I rarely use processed foods like pizza or burgers and fries, or tinned 'meals', etc. I grow carrots, beets, Swiss chard, kale, cherry tomatoes, figs, blackberries, raspberries, and squash. I also build up my raised bed soils with epsom salts to ensure good mineralization. I eat potatoes, peanuts (peanut butter), the beets seasonally....all of which provide potassium. I make fig jam...very high in potassium.

Even so, I realize that some absolutely must resort to supplements of a kind or another, and that it must be sensible prophylaxis. Perhaps I'll learn that I ought to have done so for some time....but I hope not.

If that's all the potassium you'll get that day...and the next....no. A medium-sized beet will provide you with about 6-10% of your daily requirement. But, if you eat a balanced diet, you'll get additional potassium from those sources.

nuts, beans, squash, greens, potatoes, yams, many fish and mammal proteins, etc.

Farmer gloaming- you are amazing. I do not have any space to garden unfortunately and if I did it’s 97 degrees in the shade. It’s a torching heat. I bought two IKEA wooden 8” by 10” flower beds I’m planning to plant indoors by a window. It’s the best that I can. I’m envious of your crops.

What? No kiwi fruit, the king of potassium sources?

Carey: Check you data. Avocados have waaay more potassium per weight measure.

Avocado has 63% more potassium than kiwi - kiwi has 312mg of potassium per 100 grams and avocado has 507mg of potassium. Antioxidants and Phytonutrients ...

They're locally grown, have less sugar, in season now and taste better.

Full disclosure - I grow and market Hass avocados commercially.

I'm not sure if that is enough as I have been taking 1400 mg or 2 capsules daily.

Slempickins,

Does the bottle of beetroot say how much K is in the 700 mg? I went to Amazon (US) and it's not there, and Plant Vitals website comes up "404 page not found". I've got an email into them.

Like others have said, food is the best source, but hard for me to do.

I have been taking 600mg mixed magnesium and drinking low sodium V-8 (1250mg potassium per can, less per cup) for years now and so far, know on wood, the frequency of my episodes is holding steady at once a year (last year I had two but one high stress situation). I learned of the V-8 on this forum.

This may not work for everyone but thanks for sharing and bringing it up.

ps I think GeorgeN does this too.

Wow I'm so glad for you! Will try the same, or actually I'm taking magnesium and when I remember I'm taking a juice that's similar to V-8, but I haven't taken that in quite a while. So good to see a happy story here.
