Why am I getting frequent supraventricular ectopics?
July 06, 2024 07:31PM
I cannot seem to attach a photo, so I’ll try to explain. Since yesterday, on and off, I felt these double heartbeats so I took a couple of Kardia readings. Kardia indicated sinus rhythm with supraventricular ectopics. My guess is that the ectopics are the double heartbeats I feel. Anyway, this morning when I woke up, I started having those ectopics again. Then my heart comes down and goes into normal sinus rhythm without ectopics. These ectopic seem to be more frequent than any I’ve had in the past so it’s worrisome to me, as is anything heart related. I’d appreciate any input.

Those ectopics you describe are probably PACs happening right after each normal beat. The result is what's known as bigeminy. It's pretty common around here and it's not an indicator of anything serious. It's just annoying as hell.

Yeah but SueChef gets more and more frequent tachycardia and ends up in the ER more often lately. It’s a little more than feeling a double beat . They tend to medically convert her with BBs. I wonder if they would do that for pacs. Unfortunately some EPs only have a one track mind towards amio without trying any other drugs. I find it frustrating to hear if one had only taken flecainide and not tried other drugs, to get pushed towards a pacemaker, amio or ablation. Sounds reckless unless other options were previously exhausted. IMHO.

Had the same thing happen to me several months ago and continues to a lesser extent to this date. The pattern that developed was that they would be present upon awakening in the morning and then disappear an hour or so later (per Kardia). I just assumed activity banished them. Sometimes they would be present at night before bedtime sometime not. Go figure. But as others have said, including my EP—not to worry. Best of luck.

Thanks, Susan. I've found that I have to be my own advocate about these things...like suggesting to my EP about trying a different med, or tweaking the dosage of what I'm taking.

It's like we're twins. I'm now practicing some breathing patterns. Why the HECK does this present upon awakening, when I've just had a good night's sleep & am so relaxed? There doesn't seem to be any reason why these happen...it's all a mystery! (I don't like mysteries!)

Were you tested for sleep apnea since you get it upon awakening?

Not directed at me but maybe it will help the OP. I have sleep apnea and use a bi-pap. Also, my pulse rate is low and I often experience bradycardia during the day. Maybe dips down at night and precipitates the ectopics. Anyway, EP is aware of all of this and not recommending any changes in my medication regime of Flecainide and Eliquis.
