Leaving for Austin tomorrow...

No non-stop flights between Key West and Austin, of course, so we fly EYW- ATL-AUS. Off all meds and still in NSR today- I'm cured! A few glasses of red wine will fix that, I'm afraid. Ideally, I'll flip into AF Friday morning right before my procedure. Looking forward to seeing a few friends and frat brothers from med school on Thursday in Austin. I think my wife is more nervous than I am, but I suppose that's expected.

Could not be in better hands as you now know. And you don't have to go bungie jumping off the University of Texas Tower either to get your heart misbehaving. Dr N has a whole concoction of goodies in his bag of tricks that will jump start that AFIB on cue while you are gladly asleep already.

Keep us posted and best wishes though you wont need them. You moved past wishful thinking with the best possible choice up front.

Dr.N couldn't induce afib during my ablation with his various tricks. If I had known in advance I could have drunk a big glass of ice water and taken care of that for him! Guess he still knows what to do as my ablation was 'extensive' and now I'm fine 2 yr later.

I was in Austin this time 3 weeks ago waiting out the 3 days post ablation that is recommended. Natale and his team are so professional and competent that they will put you at ease as soon as you get there and start interacting with them. They know what they're doing and they do it better than anyone else. My wife was worried too, but they even put her at ease. While I was being ablated she visited with other women in the waiting room. St. Davis' did 16 ablations that day. Natale did 3 of them so there was plenty of company.

We'll look forward to your report on the other side of this.

Thanks all- enjoying some Texas hospitality and good Mexican food and staying with my friend bill, an ER doc whose group covers all of the St. David's hospitals and clinics. Tomorrow we will tour the town and take it easy for Friday. Any tips on shaving "down there" for my procedure?

Paul, Don't worry about shaving "down there" as it is included in the 5 star procedure you are about to have. When you wake up, much of what you now have will be gone

Yeah Paul, the best tip for 'shaving down there' is DONT ... let the pros do it if you don't have a sterile electric razor or especially if you don't have a sterile razor blade type razor,
You'll only likely nick your self all up or get a rash which is just what you don't want to have prior to them making a venous puncture into each side of the femoral veins on the right and left of your groin.

If you are determined too try it, get some skin antiseptic from the pharmacy and coat the whole area well and then buy one of those body electric razors , soak the blade parts in the antiseptic and then give it a go. Of course try to cut down any bush to a shorter stuff with some blunt sizzors the make the job easier with less pulling etc.

Whatever you do, dont just go at it with a non-sterile BIC or Gillette type razor blade the area is not like your face that has been used to being scalped everyday of your life and toughened up as a result.

Anyway, afterward be sure to shower off good and reapply the antiseptic over the shaved area. That should do the trick as well. but you can save a lot of aggravation and added expense and searching around by just letting the trained folks at St Davids do the work while you are under in no-dreamland
