What's The Best Way To Recover from an Ablation?

What's The Best Way To Recover from an Ablation?
February 05, 2015 05:22AM
As some of you know, I have my ablation with Dr. Natale coming up on March 5th. What foods and supplements can I take after the ablation to help my body recover? I'm assuming an ablation creates a lot of inflammation in the body so I'm guessing whatever I can do to help reduce inflammation will help.

I'll be on Eliquis for several weeks after the ablation, obviously, so I need to be careful on what supplements I can take.

I'm just curious what others have done after an ablation to recover as quickly as possible from an ablation. I'm hoping you can share specific supplements and doses, types of food, exercises, whatever. I did a search here but couldn't find any specific protocol for ablation recovery. If posts already exist on the topic, please point me to them.

Right now I was going to implement the following:

1. 600-800mg of magnesium daily
2. 2-3 grams of fish oil daily
3. 100 mg of CoQ10 daily
4. Resveratrol - not sure what dose to take or if it's even necessary
5. Low sodium V8 - say 2 glasses per day (1,800mg of potassium)
5. Keep sugar, salt, and "bad fats" to a minimum

Am I on the right track??

Thanks,

Travis

Hey Travis,

My friend from childhood will be joining you in getting an ablation from Dr. Natale on March 5. I'm sure he'll be interested in the responses.

After my Natale ablation in late April I followed many of the recommendations in the post ablation care paper on this site at Post Ablation Care

I did not use the zyflamend but chose curcumin instead. I also used 200 mg magnesium, 4000 mg D3, a multi-vitamin called Ola Loa, and 8 oz of low sodium V8 on a daily basis. I am about 90% vegan and ate 10-15 servings of fruits and vegetables per day (all organic) and drank a lot of water and green tea.

I did not have any afib after my ablation and was very pleased when I had my crp levls tested 5 months post ablation that showed .4 mg/l. Less than 1.0 mg/l is considered optimal at the lab that tested for this.

Allan - Thanks for sharing that link. That is super helpful. And thanks for your tips as well. This is exactly what I was looking for.

George - What is your friend's name? I know it's unlikely I'll run into him but if I do I'll say hi to him and let him know I bumped into you heresmiling smiley I wish your friend a successful procedure. According to Dr. Natale's nurses, I'll be first up that morning so he'll likely be right behind me.

Travis,

Wayne S. from Houston. Scheduled at 1:30 PM. He doesn't read here, but went to Dr. N on my very strong suggestion. I basically said - "you're a 3 hour drive from the best in the world, you are NOT going anywhere else!" Poster & Natale ablatee, JAYHAWK, is also from Houston and kindly talked to Wayne to give him a first hand perspective.

Best of luck to you, too!!!

Excellent. I'll say hi to him if by chance I run into him. I wish I was just 3 hours away from Dr. Natale! He's extremely fortunate to have him in his backyard. I think if Natale was in Europe I would fly there to be treated by him!

Based on my ablation last Aug, I was put on prilosec 2x per day, baby aspirin, xarelto. To manage the discomfort, I was taking 600-800mg ibuprofen every 6 hours then alternating with tylenol. After about 4 days the discomfort subsided and I reduced the pain meds. I resumed my magnesium, potassium, and other daily supplements with no problems. Had off/on PVC's and PAC's for few months then one last episode of afib that lasted about 6 hours and self converted. Took 50mg flec 2x daily until Nov 2014. Been about 5 months now with no afib and no flec.

Travis.....had a Natale ablation on a Thursday, came home Friday (Houston from Austin) and back to work on Monday.. Maybe I was unique but the there basically was no recovery period. My only side-affect was a sore throat for a day or so from the trach-tube. Was put on warferin for 90 days post procedure.......then a 325 mg aspirin per day.

Natale told me I could resume my exercise program after three weeks.....waited about a month.

Holy cow, Steve, that's amazing! I hope I have a similar recovery experience. That's awesome you had such a smooth and quick recovery. How long have you been afib free now?

I went through recovery before finding this web site. Back at work on day three, feeling 100% normal. On Coumadin for one month. NOTHING else! No a-fib or arrhythmia during recovery. Ablation 8 years ago. I now take Taruine, magnesium and potassium to help prevent PVC which happen maybe three times a month.

My ablation was March 10, 2011
Have been problem-free since
If arrhythmia ever recurs......will be headed to Austin immediately!

Other than the aspirin was not required to take any anti-arrhythmic medication.
