Thanks, Liz. It may be that the form of the vitamin E makes the difference. Note the following (below) clip from the product description of the form that I take produced by Designs for Health.

You probably recall that I have ARMD and my retinal specialist MD at the CCF has given me a list of targeted nutritional supplements to take to help delay the damage. Recommended is either Ocuvite Preservision or those components separately. This would mean 400 IU Vitamin E. daily... and I've taken that dose for many years. The form of E I take currently is the DFH Annatto-E.

Here's from that product data...just FYI about the various properties and forms of vitamin E and note the caveat on the tocopherol form..

Jackie

Annatto-E™ 300 is a unique tocopherol-free, tocotrienols-only product, featuring tocotrienols sourced from the annatto tree. Annatto is the richest known source of tocotrienols, containing 100% tocotrienols (90% delta and 10% gamma isomers), with no tocopherols. Annatto-E™ 300 contains 300 mg per softgel of delta/gamma tocotrienols. Commercial vitamin E supplements are typically rich in tocopherols and low or absent in tocotrienols; however, tocotrienol fractions have unique beneficial effects across a variety of tissues that make them desirable for supporting many aspects of health. Research indicates that tocopherols—especially alphatocopherol—may interfere with key beneficial effects of tocotrienols, so it may be best to dose tocotrienols alone, without tocopherols.

Recommended Use: As a dietary supplement, take one softgel per day, or as directed by your health care practitioner.

Vitamin E is not a single nutrient, but rather a complex consisting of 4 tocopherols and 4 tocotrienols. Each of these components has a different molecular weight and slightly different chemical structure, which impart distinct properties that influence their biochemical functions. Annatto-E™ features DeltaGold®, a patented annatto tocotrienol formula produced in the US by American River Manufacturing.

Annatto-E™ may help support:

Cardiovascular health & a healthy lipid profile
Antioxidant status
A healthy inflammatory response
Bone mass, skin and eye health
Anti-proliferative effects

Why No Tocopherols?
Alpha-tocopherol compromises several of the beneficial effects of tocotrienols, including blocking their absorption and inducing their catabolism. Tocopherol may also inhibit adipose and liver storage of tocotrienols, so it’s advisable to take tocotrienols alone.

Available in two strengths:

Annatto-E™ 150 – 150 mg per softgel (for daily maintenance)
Annatto-E™ 300 – 300 mg per softgel (for therapeutic use, when higher doses are desired)
