Breathing during heavy weight exercise and valsalva

Gentlemen,

I thought I had written something on this but can't find it so apologies if it is somehow repeated.

In heavy weight exercise I have been in the habit of breathing in then breathing out on the effort. Alternatively you could breathe in on the effort or breathe in and out without considering the effort.

I mixed up about the Valsalva effect.

Any suggestions?

What you are doing is fine - as long as you're not holding the in breath. And weights should not be too heavy causing you to strain. Use a smooth strict style.
