Since I am actively collecting data from studies and reports that connect fluoride, iodine deficiency, thyroid function, and arrhythmia, I thought readers would be pleased to learn this good news for the people of Portland. (Actually, the vote was a month ago).
Even if your municipal water remains fluoride-free, naturally-occurring fluoride is often surprisingly high in various areas and sources of fluoride and bromide which also competes with iodine and cause deficiency health problems remains a concern. Prepared or canned foods using fluoridated water add another dimension of exposure.

Kaminski led Clean Water Portland, the campaign against fluoridating Portland’s drinking water. Outspent 3-to-1, opponents crushed the measure, 61 percent to 39 percent.

Most people don’t realize that the fluoride chemical added to municipal water is not just sodium fluoride but rather is a collection of various other toxic elements or industrial waste residues that is difficult to dispose of unless recycled or disguised as ‘something good for your teeth’… which, if course, it is not. Worse, no one should be consuming arsenic, lead, cadmium, radioactive isotopes, aluminum and more…which is what’s in the hydrofluosilicic acid by-product sold to municipalities for water fluoridation.
Afibbers should be aware that fluoride blocks iodine function which is not only critically important to thyroid function, but also to other tissues such as breast, ovary, prostate, skin and functions to some degree in virtually every cell in the body. Brain health and mental function have been highlighted in the past few years since the central nervous system is affected. Dozens of studies correlate fluoride to impaired learning and memory, altered neurobehavioral function, fetal brain damage in addition to thyroid and reproductive tissue cancers.
If you have symptoms of hypothyroidism and drink fluoridated water…be suspect… and consider the link between that and atrial fibrillation.
Awareness is the key as so many people are totally uninformed about the chemicals added to perfectly good drinking water under the guise of helping protect teeth. There is an abundance of information here in Erling’s posts and the Internet. Please share it with others.
