"Magnesium Bicarbonate - The Ultimate Mitochondrial Cocktail" [e.g. WW]

Posted by Anonymous User
An excellent article by Mark Sircus, Ac, O.M.D. [naturalallopathic.com]

Excerpts:

One of the fundamental approaches to medicine has to be the alkalinization of the body so it can dispose acids from our cells tissues, and organs. We can do this in many ways but often doctors have to do this in quick ways in emergency situations. Other times, when we have cooperative patients we can use food as medicines and accomplish things gradually with time.

Magnesium bicarbonate is a complex hydrated salt that exists only in water under specific conditions. There are, however, a few companies sell magnesium bicarbonate formulas. The magnesium ion is Mg2+, and the bicarbonate ion is HCO3-. So, magnesium bicarbonate must have two bicarbonate ions: Mg (HCO3)2.

Magnesium and bicarbonate rich mineral waters are easily absorbed and have many health benefits.... the two together make up an ideal treatment system for distilled and reverse osmosis water. Adding these two substances to taste not only will re-mineralise highly processed water but will provide the body with a constant supply of the ultimate mitochondrial cocktail. Good drinking water would contain approximately 125 mg of magnesium and 650 mg of bicarbonate per litre.[ii] When consumed together magnesium chloride and sodium bicarbonate work very well together to combat basic physiological problems.

Few clinicians are aware how these two substances work to enhance each other – they are mutually reinforcing because magnesium functions as a bicarbonate co-transporter into cells. And bicarbonate acts as a transporter of magnesium into the mitochondria. Magnesium influx is linked with bicarbonate transport according to the Dietary Reference Intakes guide from the Institute of Medicine. Magnesium transport into or out of cells requires the presence of carrier-mediated transport systems (Gunther, 1003; Romani et al., 1993).[iii] ATPase reaction has a broad pH optimum centering on neutral pH, with little significant activity above pH 9.0 or below pH 5.5.[iv] Thus anything that moves us from overall acid conditions toward alkaline that recover the neutral zone is going to enhance cell metabolism via mitochondrial optimization.

Alkalosis enhances magnesium reabsorption in the juxtamedullary proximal nephron.

It was actually the dedicated work of Dr. Russell Beckett, a veterinarian with a PhD in biochemical pathology that paved the way to understand the significance of bicarbonate acting in conjunction with magnesium. He has formulated Unique Water which, it has been asserted, slowed the ageing process and increased the length of life of humans and other mammals and could be used to treat all inflammatory and degenerative diseases. Unique Water is water containing magnesium bicarbonate at an alkaline pH value. Dr. Beckett's theoretical and experimental research has resulted in the understanding how important both of bicarbonate and magnesium ions are in human physiology and how they work together to optimize human health and the ability to recover from disease.

My new book that lays out my conceptual designs for the future of medicine is called Principles and Practices of Natural Allopathic Medicine. Magnesium chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate are non pharmaceutical, non toxic concentrated nutritional medicinal medicines. These are backbone medicines no clinic or home medical kit should be without.

Special Note: Cesium is an isolate and can become toxic with long term use. It is not a mineral natural to human cell physiology and thus in large doses holds the potential to throw off cell homeostasis. Most people who use cesium focus in it as a silver bullet solution to fixing ph imbalances. Sodium bicarbonate is better for dealing with overall ph problems. Cesium can be used for short term cancer treatment because it is a mineral that actually penetrates into cancer cells for a much more targeted pH shift that can kill the cell.

Erling - Excellent, indeed... and very important information for active afibbers and as preventive for those who no longer have afib.... Just more confirmation for the energy healing and alkalinity post. Thanks.

I've been a fan of Dr. Sircus for many years. It's good to see him making progress because he's been on the right path for a very long time.

Summary - How to Minimise Excess Acid and Carbon Dioxide Concentrations [96.31.45.246]
Average humans produce in their cells a total of half to one kilogram of carbon dioxide per day. This carbon dioxide is carried to the lungs via the blood and is breathed out into the atmosphere.

A Scientific Introduction to the Damage Caused by Carbon Dioxide in the Body [96.31.45.246]
The hundred trillion (hundred million million) cells that constitute the human body produce carbon dioxide gas continuously from the metabolism of food. This carbon dioxide is expelled eventually from the body via the lungs and, to a lesser extent, via the skin.

Overall, about one molecule of carbon dioxide in five hundred reacts as described above with a water molecule to form acid in a body cell. This is the main source of acid in the human body. If acid production occurs too quickly, and there is too large a concentration of acid, then toxic effects and cell damage occur in the body. Quantitatively, even a small increase in acidity has dramatic effects on cell function. For example, small increases in acid concentration affect the shape and activity of enzymes and other proteins in body cells. This alters the activity of a range of metabolic processes to the detriment of body cell function. Nerve cell and muscle cell excitability is altered also detrimentally. This affects neuromuscular function. In addition, the cell organelles called mitochondria cannot maintain optimum function in the presence of acid concentrations. Because mitochondria are responsible for the vast majority of energy production (adenosine triphosphate or ATP synthesis) in body cells, excess carbon dioxide and acid concentrations result in a drop in energy production throughout all body cells. Normal body function cannot be maintained. The body becomes fatigued and ages.

Perhaps the greatest damage produced by excess carbon dioxide and acid concentrations in the body occurs when intracellular organelles called lysosomes either breakdown in cells or are released into tissues. The acids that exist inside lysosomes, and similar cell organelles such as phagosomes, endosomes and ruffled membranes, originate from carbon dioxide concentrations and can contribute to the destruction of body molecules, body cells and body tissues. One scientific theory of ageing and fatigue states that lysosomes may contribute to constant body destruction and this may be responsible for the visible appearance of ageing and for physical ageing and fatigue per se. This explains also why old cells and tissues appear more vulnerable to pathology and disease than young cells and tissues. That is, in old cells and tissues, there has been a greater exposure to the acids and destructive enzymes of lysosomes. The ability to maintain cell
and tissue function is impaired.

Minimising the Damaging Effects of Excess Carbon Dioxide and Acid in the Body [96.31.45.246]
As stated previously carbon dioxide is considered to be involved directly in the ageing process. It follows that neutralisation or modification of carbon dioxide concentrations may result in the slowing of the ageing process.

There are three hundred parts per million of carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere. There are at least sixty thousand parts per million of carbon dioxide gas in each and every body cell - from brain cells to skin cells. The carbon dioxide in body cells is breathed out eventually back to the atmosphere. Any factor which increases the concentrations of carbon dioxide in body cells or any factor which interferes with the elimination of carbon dioxide from the body to the atmosphere will accelerate ageing.

Increasing the metabolism of body cells above normal levels greatly increases the production of carbon dioxide in cells and greatly increases the concentrations of carbon dioxide in cells and tissues.

Magnesium Bicarbonate [96.31.45.246]
Magnesium bicarbonate is a complex hydrated salt that exists only in water under specific conditions. It does not occur in a solid form. Water containing magnesium bicarbonate is considered to be appropriately mineralised. Indeed, medical research from many countries has demonstrated that people live longer when they drink water that is appropriately mineralised. When consumed, magnesium bicarbonate rapidly enters body cells. This occurs because magnesium is an
intracellular element and magnesium functions as a bicarbonate co-transporter into cells:

When magnesium bicarbonate enters body cells, the concentrations of bicarbonate ions inside body cells are increased. The bicarbonate derived from magnesium bicarbonate produces hydroxide ions (OH-) inside body cells which neutralise the acid (H+) from carbon dioxide concentrations, ATP hydrolysis and other sources.

It is to be emphasised that magnesium bicarbonate assists in the maintenance of cell homeostasis. As stated previously, intracellular homeostasis is very dependent on the "here and now": it is very dependent on the immediate maintenance of ideal biochemical conditions. Because magnesium bicarbonate decreases the production of acid from carbon dioxide in body cells, when magnesium bicarbonate is present in body cells then the time dependency for carbon dioxide elimination from the lungs and the time-dependency for acid elimination by the kidneys do not operate as adversely on the homeostasis of body cells. Ageing is greatly delayed.

Appendix [96.31.45.246]
It is known that mitochondrial dysfunction in body cells is correlated often to cell pathology, to cell death and to a decrease in life span per se. Magnesium bicarbonate has direct beneficial effects on the maintenance of the optimum thermodynamic and kinetic processes in mitochondria in body cells: magnesium bicarbonate keeps mitochondria functional. This gives an explanation for the increase in cell energy, the increase in cell life and the increase in life span that occurs with the appropriate consumption of magnesium bicarbonate
