Melatonin

I know there have been posts about melatonin, but I could not find anything about anyone experiencing any arrhythmia while taking it. I would be taking a 1mg dose. Arrhythmias are listed on some sites as a possible side effect and that is why I am asking. Any information is appreciated.

Thanks for the video and information. I purchased 1mg. Melatonin from Life Extension. I think it has the NFS seal but I will check that again. If you are taking melatonin, have you had any arrhythmia issues?

I recently watch a talk by a few Stanford docs on supplements. Lots of great information, including that there's a real quality control issue with supplements. If I recall when research analyze the composition (what's really in the supplements) 15 to 50% of supplements don't actually have the supplement in it. In particular, I recall that melatonin was very bad. Supplement Video

I read one case report and it is pretty hard to confirm that the melatonin was the active agent. There were other meds & issues that were also associated. Mostly PVCs.

I've personally taken up to 400 mg/day (as powder) without issue (at that level, it does not put you to sleep). While melatonin is generally thought to be produced in the pineal gland, every cell in the body makes it.

In 2020, a member here contacted me privately. He and his wife had long COVID and wanted my assistance. I asked him why he contacted me, as I have 0 expertise in that. He said it was because I figured things out and thought non-linearly. I gave him a few ideas that had no effect. Then a few months later I read a report from the Cleveland Clinic that patients that happened to be on melatonin did better with long COVID. I passed this on to the member and said that for some serious conditions people did take higher doses, but did not suggest a dose. He contacted me a month later and said that he and his wife had been taking 50 mg/day melatonin (as powder) since I mentioned it and it was as if they'd never had any issues. He was very happy, to say the least. I followed up monthly for about 6 months to see if there were any changes & he said no.

I have taken it from 2-8mg/night, and have not noticed any effect on my heart. Due to insomnia, I have also gotten up 3-4 hours after taking it and exercised well enough, as I just had to push through the sluggish feeling. From what I can tell it's effect is more hormonal and and least for me didn't effect me cardiovascularly.
