Anybody know a good EP in Baltimore?

Hi all,

I have a cardiologist but he is not an EP. Does anybody know a good EP in the Baltimore area?

Thanks

Hopefully that cardiologist you're going to see is up to snuff enough on afib to prescribe something effective for you, but it can be hit or miss with general cardiologists. Arrhythmias just aren't their thing so their knowledge sometimes lags.

When it comes to recommending EPs for ablation, I stick with who I consider to be the best two EPs in the country:

Dr. Andrea Natale @ Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute (he also practices occasionally at Montefiore in NYC).

Dr. Pasquale Santangeli @ Cleveland Clinic.

For an EP locally to get you squared away until an ablation can be arranged, I would definitely look to Johns Hopkins. They have a number of EPs in Baltimore. You can use this link provided by NBeener to find them.

PS- you're not still taking 7-year old metoprolol, are you? If you are, that's probably why it's doing nothing for you.

Thanks for the replies.
Cary,
I have been AFIB free for almost 2.5 years and not on medications except a rare Metroprolol to alleviate symptoms. I still have my original bottle from 7 years ago.

I got Norovirus a month ago and have gone downhill very rapidly. I now have almost daily multiple AFIBs each lasting from 10 minutes to 3 hours even though the Norovirus symptoms are long gone. I was able to get an appointment with a cardiologist (not an EP) in 10 days. I'm hopping to get some kind of medicinal relief for now. But if the AFIB progresses, I definitely want to look for an EP and an ablation.

I am very symptomatic and Metroprolol provides little relief. My symptoms are my chest feeling like a jack hammer from the inside. I cannot lie down and sitting lessens the feeling somewhat. I have never fallen asleep in AFIB even after the beta blocker. Is this typical??

I have no problem traveling to someone with experience. I hope I either get better (small chance) or I can get medicated to alleviate the symptoms and get some sleep while I look for an EP.

If you know someone experienced, I have no problem driving many hours.

Thanks

Personally, I put very little if any value in doctor rating web sites. They're mostly popularity contests. Got a great bedside manner but you're a mediocre doctor? You'll get top ratings. Got a mediocre bedside manner but you're a master in your field? You'll get mediocre ratings.

Are you looking for an EP to manage your afib medically or are you considering an ablation? The first one is easy and almost any board certified EP will do as well as the next. But if you're considering ablation that's a different story and I would recommend you look beyond Baltimore. There are good choices within a few hours drive.
