George - I have heard that a ketogenic diet is also recommended for someone with cancer, which my husband now has. I was just researching this tonight and am a little confused. With cancer, they don't want you to lose any weight (and he doesn't need to). However, if someone is trying to reduce or eliminate carbs/sugar with the keto diet, won't they also lose weight? afhound99 - I'm not sure. My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer in late June, and I feel like I haven't had much - if any, real breakthroughs since then. I am on Flecainide but have had breakthroughs 1-3 times/week over the past year or more? Should've kept better records... Are you on any meds for Afib now? Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
afhound99 ~ and I'm guessing you are a "get to the point" kind of guy? LOL. I could probably use someone like you to kick me in the pants when I need it! Like now... Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ah good! - my two gurus to the rescue Yes this is a yearly mammo appt. that I usually let slip to about 14 months or so...as I have indeed read about the mammograms potentially causing the problem we are trying to avoid. I also read that they are changing the definition of cancer so that some tumors will not get treated as they are not really cancer. I'm not sure when or if the medicby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ken - that's great news! So glad you are doing well. I'm sorry but I don't remember how often you were getting Afib before your ablation.... and if you were on Flec or any other antiarrythmic. I am almost hoping for more Afib episodes as the date gets closer as I feel myself chickening out since my heart has been so calm lately.... Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
I thought I would rename my earlier post, as the subject apparently didn't catch anyone's attention other than Ken..(who was kind enough to reply, but didn't know the answer to this..) But IS it too much radiation if you also need to get a mammogram around the same time? I am due for my mammo, and also scheduled for my ablation in about 2 weeks. Does anyone know if it's Oby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
I think I've read that before, that people often have their Afib quiet down as they near their ablation date. Kind of like a car...when you bring it into the mechanic, it seems to be working fine! Not sure what that's all about... How are you feeling now, Ken? Better I hope? Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Not sure any of the guys will know the answer to this, but...I am due for my mammography around now, but also have an upcoming ablation scheduled for Sept. 5th. Does it matter if I have this done soon after my ablation, or is that a bad idea? I'm dealing with my husband's lung cancer treatments right now, the upcoming ablation, and sure don't need another medical thing to worry aby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie - do you know if Omega 3's have a tendency to thin the blood? If not, I would think they would be good to take. Same for Vitamin D. If you took Coumadin for your ablation, what supplements did you take prior to the ablation? I know you may not have experience/knowledge of Xarelto, but I would think that other than vitamin K and things that affect the viscosity of the blood, thereby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am scheduled for a Sept. 5th ablation with Dr. Natale in NYC. I'd like to do whatever I can to make my body stronger and healthier to ensure the best outcome possible. I know this has been mentioned before, but I can't seem to find the posts where it was... Which supplements are highly recommended to take to increase the likehood of a safe an effective ablation? I know Jackie haby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie - you mentioned inflammation...as I am now on Xarelto and nearing my ablation date (Sept. 5th), do you know if it's Ok to take Omega-3's along with the Xarelto? I believe it has blood thinning tendencies too, doesn't it? I would like to be on it for the protection against inflammation, but wasn't sure... Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dr. Natale has been touted here as one of the very best. He told me to go on Xarelto one month before my ablation, which I just started yesterday. If I am going to trust him with my heart, I have to hope that I can also trust his judgement as to what to take to make this a safe and successful experience. If you read the inserts that come with almost every prescription drug, you wouldn'tby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Oh boy. I literally JUST started taking Xarelto tonight! I am scheduled for an ablation on Sept. 5th, and am even a few days behind in starting it. This post isn't giving me a "warm fuzzy' at all.... So what does someone do if they are Xarelto and they get wounded in some way? Are you saying there is no way to stop it? I would hope that Dr. Natale would not recommend somethby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon - not sure if we should think of you as the "Ever Ready bunny" or "Superman" or just a great guy who uses his own experiences to enlighten others and encourge them in their own journeys down this rocky road Probably all of the above. Thank you for letting us know how you're doing, and educating us on what this is all about. I would imagine some on this Board mby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon - so good to hear from you and even better, to get such a good report! I'm glad you now have this behind you and other than some follow up tests, a very bright future in NSR and without blood thinners - yay! Hopefully you will get a good night's sleep tonight and finally feel PEACE and freedom from Afib, once and for all! Sending healing thoughts your way ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
So happy to hear that Shannon's procedure went well! Will be eager to hear more as soon as possible, especially from Shannon himself Speedy recovery to you, Shannon! ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am SO happy I found this Board years ago, because you all are so understanding and helpful. Thank you Betty for that report and McHale - for your very wise words. I couldn't help but open this post due to it's subject, but it's a good reminder that I will be in very good hands with Dr. Natale. Thanks for that reminder And Shannon! Sending in angels and prayers for a safe, smooth and successful procedure, Shannon! You have been in my thoughts and prayers for the past few days. We eagerly await your return to this Board to tell of how well this all went and how great you feel Blessings ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
A bit depressing/scary...and I am a female scheduled for an ablation on Sept. 5th. ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good luck tomorrow and Tuesday, Shannon! We are fully expecting you to be in that top 88-90% as it would only be fair - you of all people, deserve to be! You have given so much of yourself for so many of us on this Board. It is your turn to be able to put all of this behind you and live worry free and in NSR always. McHale - never sure which one Multaq is...? Flecainide? And no I know I shouldn't keep putting it off as it's not going away, that's for sure. I DO get a little hesitant when I hear people saying they still can't sleep on their left side and they are getting ,"rumblings" etc. though... Haha.."batter up, Barb" hits home for me! I have had very little afib lately, which always puts me in the "well..maybe I can just keep doing what I've been doing and avoid an ablationi" mode. But with 10.5 years of Afib under my belt, even getting some while on a high dose of Flecainde - who am I kidding? So yes, McHale - you are right. Congratulations Chuck! Good to hear McHale - it sounds like you've had a fairly rocky ride over the past two months...no? Have you tried the Walla Water (?) that is mentioned here for the pacs/pvcs? What does Dr. Natale say about them? Best to you both ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
HI Shannon - you have an amazingly positive attitude no matter what twists and turns you encounter! Most people would be upset at a schedule change, but you see it as even better timing. And it surely will be. I'm sorry I have been so lax at commenting on your procedure - I haven't been on the Board a whole lot lately... HI Lisa - I'm not the right person to answer your questions but keep an eye out - there are a few "guru's" on this Board who can help. As it's the weekend, you may get a delayed response. I had to chuckle for a minute Shannon when I read the end of your message which started with "And Barb..." - I had forgotten I had posted on here too and was just reading through this and thought "How does Shannon know I'll be reading this post?"...Haha...Hey, it's late! I appreciate you all sharing your stories and giving encouragement - thank you. I am a big chicken when it comes to hospitals and getting procedures and things...had a gynecological procedure done about 3 years ago and I shook so badly while waiting for things to start that I think the Aesthesiologist knocked me out to put me out of my misery! lol.. HI Bruce - did Dr. Natale perform the first 6 ablations? I would think not, or you likely would be done after 1-2. I wish you much luck and expect that you will find the relief your are looking for - finally! Keep us posted ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
All I can say is "wow". You are all a true blessing to those of us who struggle so with our Afib. I wish everyone had this kind of support! I am very thankful that I do. This Board has been a God send, Hans. THANK YOU. Shannon - it's your turn next. I'm not sure how best to support someone who already knows so much about this and is already so positive.
