Very happy to hear this great news, Shannon! Enjoy the peace of mind and freedom you now have (confirmed) Best to you ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
OK Shannon - I wasn't planning to stop it without Dr. Natale's permission, but was wondering after reading of all of these other people only being on it for 6 weeks... Is it at the 6 month mark after the ablation that they typically do a TEE? That would mean being on Xarelto until at least March if it is. Really hoping he can take me off of it then. Thanks Shannon - will add the curcumin to my regimen! Best to you ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
A littel over 6 weeks ago, I had an ablation with Dr. Natale. As far as I can tell, so far, so good! I went for a physical with my GP last week, and while I knew that I would have inflammation from the ablation, I was surprised at how high it was. It says the the hsCRP was 10.2, where anything above 3.0 is considered high..... Is that to be expected after an ablation and will it just come downby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am just past 6 weeks post ablation and no one has told me to stop taking Xarelto yet. I don't have my follow up appt. with Dr. Natale until the end of November, but am wondering if I have to stay on it longer due to work done in my left atrium and right coronary sinus - more than your standard PVI. I just had minor eye surgery and you should see the bruise under my eye! I really donby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
For the first 5 years of Afib, when it was getting to be a daily occurence, I could stop Afib 100% of the time with a brisk walk. I might have to vary my speed, and get it up to a strong clip, but soon after I did that, I would convert back to NSR. As I got Afib so often, this clearly was no coincindence (like one EP tried to tell me). I probably did this over the course of 5 years, about 400+by tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
HI McHale - good to hear you are feeling so well and you are only on Xarelto for now. Is your stress caused by concern over Afib or is it coming from other things? Have you tried l-theanine? I know Jackie is a big proponent of this for helping with stress, anxiety, and just calming the mind and body. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks for me since my ablation. All is good, other than a faster heart rby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon - so good to hear your great news! I know you really hated being on Coumadin, so this was just what you needed to hear. I agree with Tom B - you ARE an example for the rest of us, and as George says, an amazing contributor to this Board. Congratulations!! ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ah good...was getting worried that this might stay with me. Other than that, just a few minor rumbles in the heart area, but the monitor people tell me all is normal so far (when I send in the recordings)... Glad they have us do that as it's reassuring to know someone is keeping an eye out for awhile. How are things for you now, McHale & Ken? All quiet? ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Does/did it feel like you needed to take a deep breath, and when you did, then needed to cough? Mostly irritating..and concerning only if it doesn't go away..by tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tomorrow will mark my 2nd week since my ablation by Dr. Natale in NYC. One thing I've noticed is that I feel the need to take a breath in a numer of times each day, and then cough (a dry cough). Wondering if that tube down my throat or the catheter in my neck may have irritated my throat/upper chest area?? Nothing hurts...just a strange feeling....like I need to take a breath or cough....hby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
I'm thinking no one is really sure...as it is a fairly new drug... I was taking a heart health supplement that had gingko biloba in it, and was encourgaed to stop it while on Xarelto. Didn't like doing that, as it had a lot of good stuff to protect the heart and also against platelet aggregation - but I did stop it as I also don't want to create a bleeding problem... Hi karen - I had an ablation about 10 days ago, and am on a lower dose of Flecainide, and Xarelto. I have had a few cuts on my hand (broke some glass while cleaning...), and it was no big deal. Just needed to hold the bandaid on a little longer than usual to slow the bleeding down. I also have ocassional gum bleeding, but did also before taking Xarelto. I am not taking aspirin too, as I thby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
As I being my recovery phase from my ablation this past Thursday, I want to be sure I am taking the most important supplements, without having to take a TON of supplements. Currently I'm taking: Multivitamin Cellwise antioxidant - beta-carotene, Vit C, Vit E, mixed carotenoids, mixed tocopherols, lycopene, olive extract & grapeby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello everyone! Well yes I did indeed finally get my ablation done with Dr. Natale. It was a little more involved than I thought it would be, but I knew that was a possibility as I have had Afib for over 10 years. When Dr. Natale came back in my room to talk with me, I did try to record him (per Shannon's great suggestion), but I didn't push the right button on the phone....needlessby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks so much everyone Just got off of the phone with the nurse practioner going over logistics...almost glad I'm in Afib right now - haha. I'll be back in touch as soon as I can. Appreciate your good wishes! Take care ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
So after 10+ years, I am taking the leap and getting an ablation with Dr. Natale in NYC. I've had Afib for so long that it has come to feel like my "normal"..almost forget what it was like before. Flecainide has kept it well under control for the past 5 or so years, but there were more kickups this past year or so. Of course, lately things have been pretty calm - kind of like yoby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Researcher - what is CABG? You raise a good point about the ablation - it surely does depend on how long it takes - and it should take less time with an experienced EP. Hoping of course mine doesn't take real long.... ~ Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you all for your input here to help answer my questions. You have done a really thorough job in getting it all down, Chuck! I didn't know about the fluid build up - thanks for sharing that as that could take someone by surprise when they look 10 pounds heavier! Robert - glad to hear your wife is doing well. I'm sure you were both happy she coudl be there to help you througby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Betty - I thought it would be alot easier to get all of these questions answered without having to sort through many different posts to find them. I'm not feeling hysterical - just having the normal jitters that many people have. I had called the hospital to get some answers and hadn't heard back from them until today - which is the reason for the post. Glad you are feeling well nby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
My ablation date is coming up at the end of next week and I am unsure of what I need to do beforehand. Will they be giving a blood test beforehand? Do they typically keep you overnight? I'm assuming whoever brings you in has to then go find a place to stay overnight too...yes? (we live about 1 1/2 hours away with traffic and parking etc...) Do they knock you completely out (I hope). Shannon - I didn't know about your father or your sister's history - no wonder you wanted to get your situation take care of! So sorry to hear this, but glad you made the choice you did and you are doing so well. Just to clarify..are you saying that people with intermittnet Afib have a high chance of a stroke too? I was under the impression that that wasn't a big concern unlesby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ahh, that's good to hear, Shannon. As you know so much about all of this, you seem to handle the "blips" and 'bumps" better than alot of us might. Am looking forward to hearing your good news from Dr. Natale also. To be off of blood thinners and know that you have eliminated a big threat to your health will be liberating, for sure! Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Shannon. I was thinking late last night that I had not asked you how YOU were doing. How ARE you doing/feeling after your procedure? I know you had posted just afterwards, but now that it's been a little longer, how are things going? Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon - you are truly a blessing to all of us here on this Board.. I thank you for all the encouragement, support, thought and time you have taken to help me - and so many on this board. Whenever I am down or feeling doubtful, you boost me up and give me reasons to feel much better. I'm feeling rather embarrassed to have shared my indecision, as I'm feeling pretty foolish right now. This is by far my greatest weakness: decision making. I had trouble even buying a car without extensive research and multiple visits to several car dealers. I'm sure a good therapist would have a field day with me on this, but in the meantime, I am trying to quiet that indecisioby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for your replies, George. Sorry for asking about the weight loss when you had already addressed that...somehow I missed that post until now. I have also learned of a study done in the UK where lung cancer patients undergoing radiation and taking Metformin (a diabetes drug) had much better results then those who were not taking this drug, While I am not a big proponent of drugs, i do reaby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM

HI Diane - I have to clear up one thing you said. I'm feeling old enough at 60, haven't reached 70 yet! I'm hopeful that good nutrition, and supplment protection like Shannon mentioned here will help too. I'm planning to make it to at least 92 And with a calm heart. Thanks for your reply, George. Do you know how low the carbs would have to be to work? And is there a way to do that without losing weight? Barbby tobherd - AFIBBERS FORUM
