Flecainid works very well to convert to NSR in less than an hour. But I can´t take it on a regular basis. If I do, and I tried several times, it is counterproductive while provoking afib.by Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for your input. My EP is one of the best in Germany, if not in Europe. Dr Lewalter´s reputation is top-notch, I think. On the other hand I am not too eager to have an ablation if not absolutely necessary. Flec worked twice perfectly after 45 minutes. So it might be reasonable to stay on this course as long as it works out well. Right, my afib burden is very low. In 2018 I had a totalby Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Index ablation in 05/2014. Since then isolated afib events (about 2x yearly for about 2-3 hours). 2018: 1 long event (12 hours) that self-terminated. Last week 1 long event that was terminated by 200mg Flecainid in hospital in about 45 minutes. Another event last week which I terminated myself by Flec after 3 hours. Since then all is perfect. Does paroxysmal fibrillation cause dilatation of atria? And can atria shrink if patient is afib free for, say, 4 weeks?by Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
How about an AV node ablation? Could this be a serious option to prevent fast hear beat while excercising?by Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Oh, thanks Carey. I´m glad to read that. Gives me hope. Permanent afib is not the case yet but might come one day. I do try to stay positive but it´s good to know that life´s not over if it happens.by Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, and merry X-mas first of all to all fellow afibbers. I would like to ask a simple question: Is it possible to do sports like running with permanent AF being on blood thinners and betablockers? Not exactly marathon but something like 5 miles three times a week at a moderate pace. Just to keep fit and slim. Thanks and kind regards Dirkby Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, since I am scheduled on a PVI ablation next Wednesday (no, I am not getting cold feet and won´t back away ) I'm mulling over this question. I'm not even sure how to put it into words but will give it a try anyway. What ist the aim of a PVI ablation (paroxysmal afib, lone afib) - may it be a one and done procedure or an index ablation combined with a touch-up later? Should weby Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, out of interest: What is PVAI (what is the 'A'?) and what is SVC? I´m not so familiar with the english medical abbreviations? And another question: What symptoms are to be expected after a straightforward PVI? Soreness and/or pain as described by Susan? Thanks for your help Dirk P.S. I´m due for an ablation with Dr Lewalter (Munich) next Wednesday.by Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good news. Thanks.by Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for your advice which I appreciate very much. I am definitely going to have this ablation on May 28th and won't back up. Decision is being made. Just one question: How Important ist the problem of PV stenosis with a straightforward PVI nowadays? As far as I know it has been more of an issue in the first years of ablation practice since then ablation within the veins was part ofby Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, finally, after procrastinating for a long time, I have an ablation appointment in the end of May after having had afib for about 15 years. Over the time my afib burden increased, yet it is still below 1%. Is this a low rate? What is considered to be a relatively high rate? What was your burden when you decided to get an ablation? Thanks and best regards Dirkby Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, I am a paroxsysmal afibber and think that I´m coming closer to an ablation since my meds (Flec) are beginning to fail. I have frequent breakthroughs of short-lasting afib. Probably it is going to be a straightforward PVI as I never have had persistent afib and my overall burden is relatively low (about 0.5 percent). How llikely is it to suffer from complications like left atrial flutby Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi, after having been an afibber for about 15 years (journey started when I was 32) finally I'm on flecainide (2x 100mg daily) since June 2013. I tried to avoid this as long as possible. Initially Flec helped a lot. My episodes which before happened every second day or so (most of them only a few minutes but once in a week 4 hours) were close to zero in July, August 2013. Then afibby Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dear Shannon, thanks so much for clarifying this for me. I still have a lot to learn and I' m lookong forward to accumulate knowledge. This board is extremely helpful. Any more opinions are very welcome.by Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dear fellow Afibbers, I have a mild enlargement of the left atrium. It´s 41 mm in diameter, which obviously is borderline. Some years ago the diameter was only 37mm so it has grown probably due to atrial fibrillation. Now I´m on flecainide. Is it correct, that, if the flecainide works and afib is supressed effectively, the left atrium can shrink to it´s normal size (below 41 mm) or is anby Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, I just came across this article by John Mandrola: The changing role of rhythm-control medicines for AF. Very smart approach in my opinion, particularly this: "We know that AF begets AF and that regular rhythm probably begets regular rhythm. I often use rhythm meds as an initial tempering measure. Let's get things settled down and then talk about weaning off the medicine inby Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi folks, first I would like to introduce myself. My name is Dirk, I´m living in Germany (47 yo) and suffering from lone afib for about 15 years. Otherwise I am in pretty good condition and feeling well. Since English is not my native language please excuse any typos or mistakes in my posts. My afib episodes are quite frequent. Five times a week is not uncommon but most of the runs are veryby Dirk - AFIBBERS FORUM
