I get AF every couple months or so and usually no more than 8hrs. Started it in 2011 when stupid dr overdosed my thyroid meds. Just curious if I should expect to end up in persistent AF eventually? Mainly asking because I am scheduled for a surgical procedure this month but would prefer to do it early summer but a relative told me I should get it done now while not always in AF which I understandby anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM
thnx Carey appreciate your insight. Sometimes in the past year I am not aware that I am in AF altho I feel strange and then check my pulse and realize I am in it. Dr said if HR stays under 100 thats ok, just wondering if that sounds right altho thankfully its usually 70-90 when in AF because I am on metoprolol.by anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM

Will be having colonoscopy next Monday but was disappointed to have an AF episode on Sunday for a few hours (HR under 90) first one since January. I have to stop Eliquis 2 days prior and now concerned that I may have an episode so I called cardiologist office and nurse said as long as HR under 100 if I have one it will be ok. But supposing its highter, should I cancel procedure? Praying this won&by anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM
About 5yrs ago had a Cologuard test which was negative and then 2mths ago another one which was positive Have read there are often false positives with Cologuard so praying thats true for me. Gastroenterologist said only way to really be sure is to have a colonoscopy as any other test is not as thorough plus tests like CT scan can not remove polyps so if they are seen a colonoscopy would have toby anneh - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
apparently an MRA is just a MRI of the arteries and has been recommended by my cardiologist as last doppler ultrasound showed some blockage in one of my carotid arteries and he said the MRA is better. I found out it can be done without injecting a contrast so I made an appmt to have it done and was told no metal and jewellry allowed. I did some research and learned that metal in dental crowns putby anneh - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM

I have had AF for about 12yrs since a stupid dr overdosed my thyroid meds. I usually have just a few episodes a year but in 2021 had a several episodes during a couple months but went back to not having any for quite a few months. This last year I didn't have any for 5mths but then had short episodes about once a month June-Sept and then rang the new year in with an episode. I was shatteredby anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM
thnx again, made me a feel alot better I guess when I do get it done if I go into AF prior to surgery I would have to cancel surgery so I can take the Eliquis? thnx for encouraging info Quotegloaming I have bruised twice in the past two months, they being quite rare in my pre-70-year-old life, even recently. In both cases, the bruises disappeared inside of about four/five days. I take apixaban BID, 5 mg, and have done so for five+ years. thnx Carey, I am a 3 (84y female) No ablation. Thnx for thoughts about bruising, appreciate it QuoteCarey Your first fear is reasonable and largely depends on the answer to two questions: 1. What is your CHADS-Vasc score? 2. Have you had an ablation, and if so was your left atrial appendage isolated during that procedure? (The EP would have told you if so.) sounds like a good idea, thnx quote=susan.d] Ask your ep for advice on a (shorter half life) bridging blood thinner protocol. I used that for two days before my pacemaker surgery until Eliquis half life was out of my system.by anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM
thnx great info quote=PavanPharter] Per Eliquis - despite a short clearance half-life of about 6 hours, the apparent half-life during repeat dosing is about 12 hours, which allows twice-daily dosing to provide effective anticoagulation, but it also means that when the drug is stopped for surgery, anticoagulation persists for at least a day. Sadly recently dx with ptosis (one eye has drooping eyelid) which apparently will get worse Ophthalmologist said surgery is necessary. I am concerned about 2 things. #1 I would have to go off Eliquis for several days and fear having AF and danger of stroke. #2 concerned that after the eyelid repair I may be left with permanent blue bruising marks on eye due to having been on Eliquis. thnx Kwilk, as I mentioned to Daisy I am now frightened of having double risk of strokeby anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM
Daisy what is frightening me is that research shows ocular migraines can cause strokes so because of the danger of stroke with AF I feel like I have double the chance of having one in spite of being on Eliquisby anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM
thnx Kwilk yes links are very frightening which is why I was wondering if other afibbers have ocular migrainesby anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM
I recently noticed that twice within 12 to 24hrs of having an AF episode I got what is called an ocular migraine (seeing flashing lights etc in my eyes for a brief time). Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar?by anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM
according to my cardiologist I have recently been having PACs vs AF altho when I went to their office last week for EKG of course my PACs had stopped and I was in NSR so they couldn't tell other than my description. All I know is I feel worse with these PACs, I could not feel the beats but I felt strange and felt horribly tired which is why I felt my pulse and realized I was having problemsby anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM
so after 12 yrs of on and off AF I had noticed my recent episode June 10th (first one this year) did not feel as "bad" as they had in the past which was confusing and lasted for approx 6hrs.Then 2 weeks later I had another episode which lasted only 3hrs and I took my pulse and HR was only 112 (normally when I have an episode its going to fast to even get a reading). thnx for responding Apparently it was just a regular doppler ultrasound not the one that measures calcium. Altho its a long time ago, I had one done in 1999 which was clear. 2017 results which I don't remember cardiologist discussing with me were right mild to moderate atherosclerotic plaque in distal ICA with elevated velocities consistent with 50-65% stenosis The vertebral artery is antby anneh - AFIBBERS FORUM

ok so now thoroughly depressed and scared after watching him on YT discuss the probability that AF is likely to cause dementia Especially as I am 83 and watched my husband suffer with severe dementia, don't want to go thru that or for my children to have to see it happen again to a parent My AF is not too bad, started 11 yrs ago due to stupid dr overdosing thyroid meds. Well of course when everything is going well something has to happen lol - was just dx with ptosis (drooping eye lid) which if it gets any worse will have to have surgery.
