I had an ablation in Bordeaux about 12 years ago, after a number of unsuccessful ablations in Vancouver. Things were pretty good until about 4 years ago, when I started getting a lot of extra beats, usually at night. It was a period of high stress, but didn't seem to go away when the stress ended. About 6 months ago I was getting hundreds if not thousands of them per day, early morning, afteby Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
My own personal experience with Flecainide is not so positive. I feel very drugged and sleepy, and lately have had trouble with almost any amount of alcohol (nasty hangover), which I'm guessing may be related to long term drug use. I've been taking flec on and off for about 15 years, mostly on.by Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good question. But I've had a number of ablations, and finally had some success in Bordeaux. I guess I'm worried about upsetting the applecart and possibly making things worse. My life is much better being in NSR, even with drugs, than it was in permanent afib. I really dread going back there. I know I've heard of Tikosyn, but don't think I've ever tried it. I took flec for about a year after going to Bordeaux, and then I went back into permanent afib. My EP switched me to Sotalol, which converted me and which also worked for about a year, then back into permanent afib. This time he cardioverted me, and then put me on flec again, 100 twice a day, with diltiazem, I think 120 mg once a day. That was about 7 or 8 years ago, and except for a few fairlyby Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
Have been taking flecainide for years, and have never experienced that. Although it sure makes me feel drugged and dopey. Wake up with a drug hangover in the morning. But better than afib!by Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
I wouldn't think they would care if you want a certain EP, but a call to your cardiologist would probably answer that. There used to be a survey of patients done by this website that gave success ratings. I'm not sure if they still do it, the last one I could find under "Resources" was from 2011. I used to follow those surveys quite closely, and at that time (10 years ago)by Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, looks like I missed some posts in the last week. Thanks Worntorn for your reply. Your experience (like mine) confirms that there are lots of people that do ablations without particularly good results. Sandie, I had a number of ablations in Vancouver with Dr. Yeung with no improvement. In fact, if anything I got worse. He is a very nice, compassionate man, I really liked him, but at leaby Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
Wow, great story! I live in Victoria, and would be interested to know which EP's you used here. How did you find out about Dr. Andrade, was he recommended by someone? Any further details you are comfortable providing would be appreciated, especially about Dr Andrade. Thanksby Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have been taking various antiarrhythmics for 18 years, mostly flecainide. I currently take 100mg twice a day. I also take warfarin and diltiazem 180mg once a day. I talked to my EP about it, and he suspected the flecainide, not the diltiazem. I have never felt great on the antiarrhythmics, always a bit dozy, but for the last couple of years I've really been feeling hung over, especiaby Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, I have battled afib for years, which is how I got to this excellent website. And noticed that there is a general health forum as well, so thought I might ask about my current number one concern, arthritis. About a year ago, my little finger on my right hand started to swell and become painful. Hasn't gotten much worse (although it's not really useable anymore), but for the lasby Doug S. - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Mike, Sorry it took me a while to respond. I've been away for a couple of days. Both Jais and Haisseguerre worked on me - tag team! It was a bit of a marathon, and I guess I wore out the first one. 5 hours I think. That was in 2008. I was permanent, 24-7, for most of 7 years. It was kind of controlled by drugs so that the rate didn't go to high, but I still felt lousy. During tby Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you all for your replies. I have been a frequent reader and sometime contributor to this forum starting about 15 years ago. It is definitely the best. Had an ablation in Bordeaux 10 years ago last month which helped me a lot, so haven't used the forum for a while. But still need to take drugs - flecainide and diltiazem, plus warfarin. Before that took drugs, but was still in afib. Nby Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, I wonder if someone could help me find the recommended daily amounts of these supplements for afibbers. I think there used to be something on this site called "the protocol" or something, but I just can't seem to find it. I currently take 400mg of magnesium bisglycinate, and about 1 gram of potassium gluconate. I also take 1 gram of Taurine. I think I noticed in a post byby Doug S. - AFIBBERS FORUM
