You are not alone. I wasn't diagnosed with Afib, until 2006, but I know for a certainty, that my first episode was Thanksgiving day 1980. Caffeine induced. I went for years and eventually developed a panic disorder, which allowed the mind-body cycle to reinforce itself, even though doctors didn't "catch" any heart issues despite extensive cardiac testing. I have an ablation scheduled for 6 Oct. He was referred to my by my cardiologist after my Afib went from less than 24 hours to multiple days. Boom! I'm right on the edge of paroxysmal to persistent. This is after being diagnosed for 15 years, and (I believe) after 40 years after my first episode. Well, anyway does anyone know of him?by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
No Nsaids aren't really safe when being antiquogulated. Tylenol is very bad for your liver. The only pain relief I have is Ultram (tramadol) which is a synthetic/pseudo opiod. It is a weird drug, because some people actually get high from it, but some people only get a level of relief. Not a great deal, but some. I'm in the limited relief, which is better than none, but nby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM

I can't comment on the frozen shoulder, but lying on my left side is a definite trigger for me. As in just a few seconds will do the trick in the early hours of the morning. Which for me, is sad, because. I want to go there.by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM

Just curious if lower HR and BP is common among folks. In NSR, my HR is usually right at 60; sometimes lower (in fact it used to run consistently in the 40s due to endurance bicycling. Always has been. My BP is usually 130/70 ish. Lately, I have noticed a lower HR and BP post conversion. Always returns to my normal by the next day. By lately, I mean the three or four episodes a yearby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM

Caffeine is a huge trigger for me. My first episode was coffee induced on Thanksgiving day 1978. I have to be very careful of caffeine. As in avoid it like the plague.by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey Because hypertension will kill you all on its own with or without the afib. This comment stood out to me, because will it? When you dissect this, it's not the hypertension that kills it's the underlying issue that causes the hypertension . Hypertension is a symptom, and controlling it may keep the underlying issue from literally blowing up, but does it ever show upby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM

PPIs don't affect me personally with AFIB, if fact they seem to help ( my fib is especially affected by Gerd and heartburn ), but, I do know that taking them seem to affect bone health, especially feet.(for over ten years, when taking them daily, I had several fractures in my my feet). I weened myself off them, and have no fractures since then. I still take one Aciphex every so oftby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM

What is a good toothpaste for us? I haven't used a toothpaste with fluoride since my parents foisted it on me in Jr. High. I bought Colgate powder then, out of my allowance. Baking soda is too abrasive to use all the time , so I'm looking for a brand that works better than a toothbrush alone, and won't trigger an episode.by lisa s - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM

Thanks Shannon. I, fortunately have only two or three episodes a year, lasting from only three hours up to 18 hours. Not consistent in duration , at all. It's not much time in AFIB, but with a family history of both AFIB, and DVT/Pulmonary Embolism, I'm not sure any doc would willingly sign off on no blood-thinners at this point, anyway. While I'm at it, is there any wayby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
I ask this because I had a TIA six days after a fourteen hour episode last March. Have been on Eliquis since then. I fortunately only have a few episodes a year, but, I'm always extremely and uncomfortably aware of when I'm in AFIB. How long is reasonable to assume that I won't blow another clot and can start breathing again? Obviously, this question is brought on by myby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
I don't know about the science and stats, but for me, a cluster of them is a precursor of an event. I most commonly have an isolated "blurp" (I don't know how to describe it better; that's what it feels like) that doesn't lead to more, but if it is more than a few, an episode is sure to follow, especially if accompanied by pressure (vague, I know, but that'by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
George, you may be referring to me (AFAIK, I'm the only one who has asked about adding magnesium to the hot tub). I was concerned that Epsom salts were too corrosive, and was looking for an alternative. I've been using Nexa Dead Sea Minerals in my hot tub for many years now. The mag form in this product is mag chloride, and I have not had any problems with it. It's eaby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've asked that this be done, before, but it was a no-go. That was before Shannon took the reigns, though. Maybe, this time the request will be honored. It is tedious to weed through, what has, at times, been pages to see if someone responded, or start a new thread because you are essentially answering a question on page 3. Certainly alcohol can be a trigger, but like any other thing, is it repeatable for YOU? The only way to know is to keep track. Keep in mind that all alcohol is not created equal. Even if you aren't sensitive to the alcohol itself, there are many other variables (just like any other complex food). You may be able to handle some forms but not others. For example, maybe you are sensitiby lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dehydration is a trigger for me. Even if I'm up to snuff on mag and potassium. I'm sure it has to do with changing your blood volume carrying essential electrolytes, and possibly the ratio of each, to say nothing of the way those are transferred through cell membranes.by lisa s - AFIBBERS FORUM
A few bites of cheese is not enough calcium to trigger an episode, IMO (how much calcium can there be?). If you ate a whole wheel of it, well then, that's a fair amount of calcium. I would look to something else, free glutamates in aged cheese, maybe? Maybe some other ingredient or sample of (fill in the blank) that was there? Maybe coincidence?
