Bradycardia trigger
October 23, 2003 10:49AM
I have a long history (5 years) in and out of Fib . I was cardioverted twice
and am haveing a hard time staying out of fib.I have a slow rate while in NSR.I am a fully remediated (Bi- PAP ) 54 Years old sleep Apnea sufferer.
My recent provacations have included l-Carnitine and Taurine together (500 mg each )and a Bradycardia (while sleeping )event with no known other stimulation.
I am ( i think ) mixed v/a . My cardio is concerned that I may need a pacemaker because of the Bradycardia.I am anti-coagulated but otherwise drug free.My Cardio wanted me on Metoprolol I tried one small piece of a tablet and it sent me into the worst PAC storm . It did not triggger AF.
My history includes exercise (Cross country skiing )Also post weight lifiting , post alcohol, post large meals .I am sleeping position sensative.
I have removed almost everyone of the standard triggers from my life.I am trying to keep heart rate down inorder to get the effect of drugs without drugs.I still walk when not in near crisis .
I am wondering if I can find a way to prevent the Bradycardia trigger .Any Suggestions?Does anyone have any experiance with Curicum ? What effect?

Jay what is your heart rate in nsr and afib? I found that by chewing a 2mg nicotine gum I could stave off the nightly afib attack for a couple of days but it would eventually breakthrough anyway so I decided to discontinue it and just accept the fact I was going to be in afib a lot. I can do that because my afib resting Heart rate is only about 75 to 80 bpm. No need for rate control.

Some other suggestions from this board that I did not try were Ativan or Viagra. Sorry no experience with Curicum.

Thanks for the reply . My NSR resting rate is about 54 my afib rate resting is about 98 too fast . I must warn everyone that it is not unknown that remodeling can change an apparent self-correcting Afib can go persistant and that can go permenent . I had a tough time getting back to NSR ie the Docs wnated me to go rate control. The process of afib damages the heart
so what was a healthy heart can move (sometimes quickly) to a very sick heart with no way out . I had a serious bacterial intestinal infection (3 weeks ) and went persistant.

I'm quite sure that my heart has sufferred from remodelling, after all I'm in AF 60% of the time now. lots of time to blaze a trail.
Fran was permanent and she managed to change the remodelling of her heart thru nutrition and elimination of excitory elements so I am holding out hope that I can too. My diet is still not where I'd like it to be but I am taking steps in the right direction. Paleo with pizza (kid's friday treat) not withstanding. I just recieved a questionnarie in the mail from My new doctor. I like what I see so far.

I would just like to put in my theory about heart remodelling. It is not my opinion that AF itself remodels the heart. I truely believe that it is what causes the arrhythmia that remodels the heart. So in my case the more free glutamate (an excitory neurotransmitter) I ate the worse my electrolytes and the cellular state of my heart became. As I kept eating it the problem got worse. When I stopped eating it my electrolytes and cells started to heal as they were no longer being over stimulated. And one day it all went back to normal.

So to me - the Dr's that attribute AF to remodelling is only a half hearted explanation as they have not looked any deeper - which is such a shame. Statements from 'professionals' that produce FACTS only serve to stop research in its tracks and make most AF patients despondent and relient on drugs and ablation to try and stop it from progressing.

I have no medical back up for this statement - only what happened to me. And it makes more sense to me than saying AF begets AF.

Adrian - your pizza? I can understand the wanting for a pizza. Just make sure that the Pizza you choose does not have MSG - many put it on - Pizza hut are terrible....

I know Fran I know. The pizza is for the kids. I have Dad's food (steak and brussel sprouts ex.) but sometimes I can't resist and have to grab a piece. I find that all Chain stores like Pizza hut are terrible. This place is local but who knows what goes in the sauce?
