Hi all you. I have had for some months flash in my eyes when I go to bed and turn of the light , when I then close my eyes in the dark I can see light flashes, I have one other person with the same flash and believe it or not its my wife. Her flashes started many years ago and doctors had not a clue about it. She got diagnose hypothyroidism and started on medication , and flashes disapeared. but for me thyroid boodtest are ok, and after some weeks now on my new regime ,flashes are for now gone.

BTW. have any of you tested my regime???????????????

I thought this was normal. I always have flashes in my eyes when I switch off the light. I can focus in on them and change their shape. I often see faces in them which change and when they get gruesome I can make them friendly.

Seeing flashes is one of the worst things that can happen to me. My retina specialists have all warned me to get in to see them immediately if they occur. I have had laser surgery 7 times in my left eye and once in my right eye as well as a severe detached retina requiring the draining of the fluid in the left eye and an air bubble being placed in there to push the retina back into shape also requiring looking at the floor for 2 months. I have macular degeneration in both eyes. Yours may be due to some other cause but I would see a retina specialist immediately.
It is interesting about seeing faces. I also see the outline of various faces that often morph from one image to another and I never recognize any of them and have read of other people experiencing the same thing but I have no idea what they mean.

I've had two eye surgeries since August 26th and was told both times if I see "flashes" to call doctor immediately. I never thought to ask why, but sometimes this is a sign of stroke.

I believe that it is a sign of a detached retina.

Kjell:
What medications are you on? Possibly a reaction to a drug? I believe detached retinas usually look like a curtain coming down, although there could be other visual aberrations.

FWIW, free glutamate, Fran's arch enemy, is very prevalent in the eyes.
