Has anyone ever tried The Wheat Belly eating plan by William Davis MD ?

I am curious to know if it is a good plan for A fib or help getting rid of A fib.

Thank you for any information that you can give me.

Maryann,

I follow a diet that is more restrictive than Wheat Belly, and a part of it is no grains. It did not change my afib. That being said, I am aware of a number of case studies where diet did positively impact afib. Changes by the people in these case studies have included long extended water fasting, low carb and keto diets (including one friend who reversed ~15 months of persistent afib through a combination of fasting of various lengths and a keto diet), people following our doc, Steven Gundry's program (which I've linked what we do here <[www.afibbers.org] ) and others. I recall a paper written by an Aussie EP addressing this <[www.onlinejacc.org] I think Dr. John Mandrola and the guys at Intermountain Heart in Utah have also written about this, but I don't have the links handy.

My hypothesis is that those who have metabolic comorbidites (and possibly an adrenergic or sympathetic trigger) would be the ones most likely to benefit with respect to afib. These plans will help reduce or eliminate these comorbidities and this would be the method of action.

While I always respect the information George shares, I will also mention the following...

I just finished some inperson meetings with Dr. Natale and Kristi Pangborn, NP at Scripps in La Jolla, and they are both really against the keto diet. Just FYI...

Kristi Pangborn said she and her group advocate eating a mainly plant-based diet (some meat is ok, I didn't get any specifics)

David

P.S. In my own case, I believe following a keto diet intensely for a time (N.B. this was while bodybuilding--another stress factor) may have been a cause in starting my afib condition.

I do realize that human beings are variable enough that some people can be gain relief from their afib with a keto diet, while others can actually get afib from a keto diet...

I had not heard Natale's view on this before and I think it is significant. There have been recent studies associating low carb diets with AF. Proponents of the keto diet suggest that electrolyte imbalance during the adaptation phase is the reason for the increased risk of AF, but this is not what the studies suggest. Rather it is increased inflammation due to fewer vegetables, fruits and grains, and increased stress from more protein and fat consumption.

I would take Natale's opinion over media personalities like Oz and Gundry. The latter are cardiac surgeons turned expert nutritional epidemiologists, with no reputable training or studies or publications in the field. Obviously every specialist cannot be an expert in everything, but they should seek to be informed by actual experts.
