New Chads VASC guidelines for anticoagulants

I saw the guidelines had changed for anticoagulant therapy if you have Afib....however I can not find a new chart showing the changes or any articles about the change...can anyone point me in the right direction...or if you have a link...thanks! Linda

The two significant changes in the 2019 guidelines are that NOACs are recommended over warfarin, and the CHADS-Vasc point that women get for being female is no longer counted. The CHADS-Vasc score itself has not changed.

So if I was a 2 before.....1point for being 71 and 1 point for being female.... am I now a 1.... where I used to be a 2?

So how does that affect what I take..... if anything for an anticoagulant?

Yes, the 1 point you get for being female is gone now so you're a 1. Being a 1 means anticoagulants are a judgement call. Talk to your EP about it if you'd like to consider coming off anticoagulants, but keep in mind you'll be a 2 again in four years.

And thanks, Ids001, for posting a ‘useable’ version of this 2019 Focused Update for the 2014 AFIB Guidelines. I had tried to post that Update a couple weeks ago but came up with a bogus link!

Thanks Linda, and yes indeed it was Carey who found and posted the proper and accessible link to the 2019 Focused Update for the official 2014 AFIB Guidelines. But you, too, get credit for once again highlighting that this more targeted interim update of the 2014 guidelines had been published (in Jan ‘19).

It was a team effort!
