Are you on the older side and have gout? Then your chances of having afib are increased by a whopping 70%.

Fascinating link - thank you Carey.

I've had gout since 2001 totally controlled with Allopurinol since 2010.

I've never had gout or arthritis but the link to AF is not surprising considering the link to inflammation and gout. Among the causes of elevated uric acid (present in gout) are diets high in fructose, meat, seafood, and sweetened soft drinks along with thiazides and loop diruetics. The latter makes sense for the AF factor in that those deplete the critical electrolytes.

If you get gout, beware of taking Viagra it can bring it on, it's a side effect.
Dehydration can also bring it on.

Have never tried Viagra as I felt it would be too risky with perm A/Fib , anyway at 73 a glass of red wine is more satisfying !!
I have never had gout and I hope I never do get it , I have just had all of my bloods checked including PSA and that was 0.27 and my cholesterol was 4.4 , everything else was spot on and my INR is currently 2.6 .
