I take Toprol 25er once a day and take 50 mg flecainide twice a day. At times i get difficult or labored breathing even though blood pressure, oxygen meter is 97. Does anyone else experince this same problem and what do you do about it. Would appreciate your thoughts thanks. I believe it also causes some anxiety when this happens. thanks Steve

Does it feel like you can't fill up your lungs

Beta blockers can cause shortness of breath in some people. Basically, for susceptible people they can block signals from your brain to the muscles in your lungs that allow the airway passages to relax, which tightens your airways and causes shortness of breath.

Talk to the doctor who prescribed the Toprol and see about trying another drug. He could possibly substitute a calcium channel blocker depending on why you're taking the Toprol.

It did with me. Taking 200 steps left me puffed out when i was taking Propranolol (not quite sure about that because i took another one at some stage). Chucked them away and i was much better even with a 100+ HR.
Finally, they prescribed sotalol which was ok at the low dosage i was taking.
