Coronavirus and Vitamin K

Interesting new study, referenced by Consumerlabs.com:

Reduced Vitamin K Status as A Potentially Modifiable Prognostic Risk Factor in COVID-19

"Conclusions: Vitamin K status was reduced in patients with COVID-19 and related to poor prognosis. Also, low vitamin K status seems to be associated with accelerated elastin degradation. An intervention trial is now needed to assess whether vitamin K administration improves outcome in patients with COVID-19."

They seem not to be distinguishing between K1 and K2, but using a measure of total vitamin K: "Measuring inactive levels of vitamin K dependent protein in the circulation is the method recommended by most experts, presenting the availability of both vitamin K1 and K2 in the system" (p. 7 of PDF).

Best wishes

Good find! I only skim-read through the pdf and I will be re-reading soon....but the fact that the PhD researchers listed include Leon Schurgers and Cees Vermeer from U. of Maastricht is not only highly validating, but also very encouraging since they are well-known for their vitamin K research. Thank you! Jackie
