I've been wearing them for 10 years. Nothing to do with afib that I know of.

My audiologist said to wear them in pairs even if one ear is not affected. Most aids nowadays have controls for one ear different volume and response levels than the other, cut out noise in back, adapt to smart phones, app for smart phone control or remote control in pocket or on your watch or buttons on the aids themselves for various options.

They're improving all the time but still a long way from perfect. For example, I always have the closed caption on when i watch TV.

The behind the ear unit with a little tube to a speaker in the ear works best for me and is minimally noticeable. There are versions that are implanted in the ear canal that are completely invisible but they are expensive and require regular visits to a center to have the batteries replaced.

Nobody I know likes wearing them but life's better with them than without.

If you are happily married and want to stay that way I'd guess getting aids will no longer be an option soon.

I have been wearing HAs for about 30 years. They have come a long way from analog to digital. The two I am wearing came from Costco and for a very good price. They have bluetooth and are the best I have ever owned (I have owned many). Good luck.

Tibbar. If you're a military veteran, the VA may supply the newest digital hearing aids for $50 and free batteries for life.

Check in with your local VA office and ask for a referral to a hearing specialist.
