New addition to this report...... Glyphosate Harvest: Monsanto’s Toxic RoundUp Sprayed on Crops RIGHT BEFORE Harvest

Posted by Jackie
In addition to the following alert post on the exposure to glyphosate from harvest methods, there is this new report of interest...indicating that in 2013,the EPA has actually raised the permitted toxicity levels of Roundup. Read more after this first segment.

Wheat is the Tip of the Iceberg

Another reason to go wheat/grain free… beyond the gluten sensitivity issue….

There have been afibbers reporting that once they went gluten free, they were also free of Afib. It could be that it was not just the gluten, but the exposure to the toxin, glyphosate, used to harvest grain products as well as other crops.

I have not seen specific reports for the toxicity to heart cells from glyphosate residue, but it doesn't take much imagination to connect the dots....especially after reading this report and since glyphosate exposure and neurological disorders are documented in the medical literature. Perhaps no one is looking at the Arrhythmia connection (yet) but from what we know, the exposure certainly can't be safe or healthy.

So... FYI... read this and consider that perhaps the only way around the glyphosate/grain toxicity exposure would be obviously, avoiding those foods or eating specifically that which is Certified Organic. That said, however, organic farmers are complaining that their crops are contaminated by wind drift which makes their crops questionable.

Certainly the carcinogenic aspect is worth the alert as well.

Glyphosate Harvest: Monsanto’s Toxic RoundUp Sprayed on Crops RIGHT BEFORE Harvest

Glyphosate, the main ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide, is recognized as the world’s most widely used weed killer. What is not so well known is that farmers also use glyphosate on crops such as wheat, oats, edible beans and other crops right before harvest, raising concerns that the herbicide could get into food products.

Escalating Use of Probable Carcinogen
Glyphosate has come under increased scrutiny in the past year. Last year the World Health Organization’s cancer group, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, classified it as a probable carcinogen. The state of California has also moved to classify the herbicide as a probable carcinogen. A growing body of research is documenting health concerns of glyphosate as an endocrine disruptor and that it kills beneficial gut bacteria, damages the DNA in human embryonic, placental and umbilical cord cells and is linked to birth defects and reproductive problems in laboratory animals.

It’s pervasiveness is been becoming clear as it has been found in air, water and people. Glyphosate was detected in urine samples, and U.S. women had maximum glyphosate levels that were more than eight times higher than levels found in urine of Europeans. The chemical has also been suspected to be responsible for the bee colony collapse epidemic. The FDA has finally been forced to start publicizing research on the effects of glyphosate on bees due to pressure from independent researcher’s discoveries of glyphosate in all honey.

A recently published paper describes the escalating use of glyphosate: 18.9 billion pounds have been used globally since its introduction in 1974, making it the most widely and heavily applied weed-killer in the history of chemical agriculture. Significantly, 74 percent of all glyphosate sprayed on crops since the mid-1970s was applied in just the last 10 years, as cultivation of GMO corn and soybeans expanded in the U.S. and globally.

Glyphosate Used to Speed Up Wheat Harvest
Charles Benbrook, Ph.D., who published the paper on the mounting use of glyphosate, says the practice of spraying glyphosate on wheat prior to harvest, known as desiccating, began in Scotland in the 1980s.
“Farmers there often had trouble getting wheat and barley to dry evenly so they can start harvesting. So they came up with the idea to kill the crop (with glyphosate) one to two weeks before harvest to accelerate the drying down of the grain,” he said.

The pre-harvest use of glyphosate allows farmers to harvest crops as much as two weeks earlier than they normally would, an advantage in northern, colder regions.

The practice spread to wheat-growing areas of North America such as the upper Midwestern U.S. and Canadian provinces such as Saskatchewan and Manitoba. “Desiccation is done primarily in years where conditions are wet and the crop is slow to dry down,” Joel Ransom, an agronomist at North Dakota State University, said.

Glyphosate: Will the EPA Capitulate to Its Cronies?

By anh-usa on November 1, 2016 Real Not Phony Food

They’re concerned the truth will come out about this ubiquitous poison. Action Alert!

Recently we reported that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a draft report on the carcinogenic potential of glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide. This was in advance of a meeting in which a panel of scientists would discuss the available data on glyphosate and its potential to cause cancer—but that meeting never happened. It was postponed, ostensibly because the agency was seeking additional experts so there could be a more “robust review of the data.”

The biotech industry is going all out to stop this review. CropLife America, the trade group for the nation’s largest biotech and pesticide manufacturers, strenuously objected to the government reviewing the cancer data, telling the EPA that there is no need to discuss the issue at all! Outrageously, CropLife also called for the removal of any scientist from the panel who has “publicly expressed an opinion regarding the carcinogenicity of glyphosate.” The trade group kindly offered the names of scientists who should be removed from the reviewing panel to restore “impartiality.”

Think about that demand for a moment. CropLife wants to exclude any scientist or researcher who has ever published anything on the topic. Any scientific expert would almost certainly have published something on glyphosate—or s/he really couldn’t be considered much of an expert on the subject. It appears that CropLife is attempting to pack the panel with woefully unqualified puppets who will toe the industry’s line.

And these are only the “official” comments by industry. We can imagine what kind of jockeying is going on behind the scenes. So far, they’ve been able to get the whole thing postponed.

It appears that some in Congress also don’t want the government looking at the cancer-causing potential of glyphosate. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), chair of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, sent a letter to the head of the EPA, Gina McCarthy. He expressed his concern that certain EPA scientists who had been involved in the International Agency for Research on Cancer’s (IARC) report—the one that found glyphosate was probably carcinogenic—might compromise the agency’s ability to “fairly assess glyphosate based on sound science.”

Let’s put Rep. Smith’s “concern” in clearer language. EPA scientists conclude that glyphosate may cause cancer, but a congressman says this makes the scientists unable to assess the science fairly. What sense does that make? That’s like saying if you have scientific evidence that smoking causes cancer, you’re no longer able to evaluate the scientific evidence on smoking.

We saw the same crony capitalist tactics with the creation of the FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC). The PCAC will have a heavy hand in determining the fate of the compounding industry, yet the committee is a stacked deck—it has only one member who is an actual compounding pharmacist, and that member cannot vote.

This review must happen, and real experts must be allowed to submit unbiased data and conclusions about the carcinogenicity of glyphosate. As we reported recently, this poison’s potential to cause cancer is only one of many health dangers that scientists have linked to it—and that isn’t even counting the toxicity of the so-called “inert” ingredients that, combined with glyphosate, make up Roundup and other weed killers.

We are all being exposed to glyphosate at much higher levels than predicted by the government. Since Roundup was introduced in 1996, global use of the herbicide has increased fifteen-fold. In addition to farmers having to use increasingly larger amounts of the poison because of weed resistance, they’re drenching crops in Roundup at harvest to make crops dry faster! On top of this, farmers are using an estimated 383 million more pounds of pesticides and herbicides overall because of GM Roundup-ready crops (crops genetically manipulated to withstand Roundup).

In 2013, the EPA actually raised the permitted toxicity levels, declaring that even higher amounts of Roundup were “safe.” We can all guess why and how this happened.

The bottom line: We must not let crony influences undermine the EPA’s review of this dangerous chemical!

Action Alert! Write to the EPA and to Congress, and tell them to reject CropLife’s influence and keep scientists who are experts on glyphosate on the panel. Please send your message immediately.

I buy bread that says it is made with Organic wheat, so i would hope they don't use glyphosate on their wheat. I don't eat a lot of bread, but i do eat a few slices for breakfast, I don't have a problem with wheat.

I bake my own bread using Organic wheat, also eat only Organic vegetables. Avoiding Glyphosate has cured the Arthritis (specifically Gout) I had suffered from for twenty years.

Anyone have data for the prevalence of Atrial Fibrillation over the past 20-30 years? If you have let me know and I will plot it against Glyphosate usage, see if there is any correlation.
Nick:

I raise all my veggies, berries and also lots of fruit. I do buy bread, its says it is made from organic wheat, I also buy brown rice products. I do get episodes of AF perhaps once a month or longer, it lasts anywhere from 3 hrs. to 12 hrs.
