Hi Alex - as a staple on the shelf for an easy protein meal readily available, these canned/tinned fish are very popular.
Critics say they are healthy if the label indicates the interior container coating does not contain BPA. Sometimes the sodium content is too high in some brands so it's important to watch for that.
Those fatty fish are a great source of Omega 3's and protein so I'd say it's better than not eating any protein because you don't like to cook.
It's said that the small fish such as anchovies and sardines are least likely to be contaminated with mercury and other toxins because they haven't been exposed to it as long as larger fish that take longer to grow and then be harvested.
