Government Admits Cell phones Cause Cancer

The July 2016 issue of Blaylock Wellness Report written by neurosurgeon, Russell L. Blaylock, MD, reports that cell phones can cause cancer.

"A $25 million study conducted by the National Toxicology Program, branch of the National Institutes of Health, found cell phones increased the risk of glioma, a type of cancerous brain tumor and schwannoma, a rare tumor of the heart.
Dr. Blaylock makes the point that “We’ve known this for years, of course. As we knew for years that cigarettes caused cancer, but the government and tobacco industry refused to admit it. The reason that previous studies linking cell phones with cancer have been downplayed boils down to money."

"A recent analysis of thousands of articles written on the subject of cell phone safety found that the majority of scientific papers in major journals that reported no medical problems or biological damage related to radiation exposure were financially supported by the cell phone industry… but that studies completely independent found just the opposite — damage was indeed occurring."

" Dr. Russell L. Blaylock is a respected medical doctor who is unafraid to challenge establishment thinking. He doesn’t parrot what the New England Journal of Medicine — which receives heavy subsidies in advertisements — claims.
Dr. Blaylock is a nationally recognized, board-certified neurosurgeon, health practitioner, author and lecturer. He has more than a quarter-century of medical experience.

His credentials include 26 years of experience in neurosurgery, editorship of the respected Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons and Journal of the American Nutriceutical Association. He previously served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS, and is currently a visiting professor of Biology at the Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi.

And he also edits The Blaylock Wellness Report (published by Newsmax) because he believes that too many Americans are not getting the best advice for preventing and dealing with cancer, heart disease, diabetes, brain diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer’s, and dozens of health problems now plaguing the American people.
He receives no funding from the pharmaceutical industry. He has no deals to sell you the health products he may recommend.

He just gives you the best cutting-edge science that shows how you can improve your health — and possibly live longer."

This kind of article is sort of a Chicken Little kind of paranoid drivel. If it is true, then 80% of the US population is going to get a rare form cancer; it won't be rare anymore in that case. The 20% that survive will be very rich from filing lawsuits against the phone companies, so there's a positive note.

Joe Biden would say that Blaylock is full of malarkey-

Tom - My mission has always been to create awareness over known potential risks that can cause health issues.

Dr. Blaylock, a retired neurosurgeon, is certainly well-recognized as understanding the science of the human body. I’m sure that the government’s position is to obfuscate and deny when at all possible because of the obvious impact on the cell phone industry. That does not, however, negate the facts about the risks of SAR (specific absorption rate) exposure… esp. when cell phones are held directly against the skin. Unfortunately, there are many reported cases of glioblastoma in those with heavy cell phone use.

As the saying goes…’where there’s smoke, there’s fire’… so it pays to be aware and not be in denial over the risks of exposure to all these types of radiation exposure. When I reported on the risk of EMFs and WiFi exposure in homes and quoted from the webinar by Oram Miller, BBEC, EMRS, he offered the observation that:

Among the General Public:
‣ Only 3-5 % are electrically hypersensitive (EHS)
‣ Yet, up to one third are estimated to be symptomatic from chronic use of wireless devices used at close proximity
‣ Everyone has cellular damage from RF exposure
‣ Thus, two-thirds of population can repair the cellular damage at night and do not become symptomatic (a
number that is expected to decrease)
‣ Your risk ratio for disease is one out of the three chances

Here’s a science-based website that addresses the risks

National Toxicology Program Finds Cell Phone Radiation Causes Cancer
June 24, 2016

According to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the newly-released study on cellphone radiation and cancer in rats conducted by the National Toxicology Program (NTP) resulted in more than 1,000 news stories. Nearly 150 reporters participated in the telephone press conference held by the NTP on May 27.

Unfortunately, much of the media coverage contained considerable bias, or "spin" intended to create doubt about the study's important findings regarding cancer risk from exposure to cellphone radiation. Notable exceptions included news stories that appeared in the Wall Street Journal and Mother Jones.

NTP Toxicology & Carcinogenicity Cell Phone Radiofrequency Radiation Studies

Summary of Presentation at BioEM 2016 Meeting (Ghent, Belgium) by Michael Wyde, PhD, Director of NTP Studies of Cell Phone Radiation, NIEHS, June 8, 2016

Dr. Wyde explained the four reasons why the National Toxicology Program (NTP) decided to release partial study results at this time: 1) given widespread cellphone use, even a small increase in disease incidence could have major public health implications; 2) there is a high level of public and media interest in the study; 3) the tumor types observed in these studies are similar to those found in human studies of cellphone use; and 4) the results support the IARC classification of radiofrequency radiation as potentially cancer-causing in humans.

Dr. Wyde discussed the 5-day pilot studies conducted on young and aged mice and rats and on pregnant rats to determine the maximum intensity of cellphone radiation that could be employed in the subsequent studies without inducing any heating effect. He also described the 28-day pre-chronic toxicology studies and the 2-year toxicology and carcinogenicity studies.

For the pre-chronic studies, NTP selected SAR exposures of 0, 3, 6, and 9 watts/kilogram (W/kg) in rats and 0, 5, 10, and 15 W/kg in mice based on pilot study results. Pregnant rats were exposed prenatally and 28 days postnatal to 900 MHz cellphone radiation (GSM or CDMA). Five-week old mice were exposed to 1900 MHz cellphone radiation for 28 days.

Dr. Wyde reported statistically significant evidence of DNA damage from nonthermal exposure to cellphone radiation in mice as well as in rats:
• male rats: frontal cortex, hippocampus, liver, blood
• male mice: frontal cortex
• female rats: frontal cortex
• female mice: liver, blood
The partial results of the carcinogenicity studies were also discussed. See my summary below.

SPIN vs FACT: National Toxicology Program report on
cancer risk from cellphone radiation
The National Toxicology Program (NTP) of the National Institutes of Health reported partial findings from their $25 million study of the cancer risk from cellphone radiofrequency radiation (RFR). Controlled studies of rats showed that RFR caused two types of tumors, glioma and schwannoma. The results “…could have broad implications for public health.”

A fact sheet on the NTP study that summarizes some biased statements, or “Spin,” about the study that tend to create doubt about data quality and implications, as well as “Facts” from decades of previous research is available at [bit.ly].

Additionally… See the most recent update of the BioInitiative Report, that also draws attention to EMF-induced changes in neuronal activity, function and toxicity, leading to neuropsychiatric and cognitive problems, disturbances in neurotransmitters, increased oxidative stress, reduced cytotoxic activity and immune dysfunction, and much more.
[www.bioinitiative.org] They have a report Cell Phone Study Confirms Cancer Risk [www.bioinitiative.org] which includes this quote:

Excerpt:
The World Health Organization's 10-year study of human use of mobile phones concluded there is
an increased risk for malignant brain tumors among the heavier mobile phone users, particularly
where it is used mostly on one side of the head. The 2010 Interphone mega-study of cancer in
humans using mobile phones found higher cancer risk, but at that time there was little animal testing
to support the risks identified in humans. Now, this NTP study has shown statistically significant
risks with a dose-response relationship to the amount of exposure. It proves that non-ionizing
radiation can plausibly cause cancer, not just ionizing radiation like x-rays and puts to rest the
traditional scientific argument that cell phone radiation can't do harm.

Dr. Christopher Portier, formerly with the NTP commented this is not just an associated finding — but that the relationship between radiation exposure and cancer is clear. “I would call it a causative study, absolutely. They controlled everything in the study. It’s [the cancer] because of the exposure. This is by far— far and away — the most carefully done cell phone bioassay, a biological assessment. This is a classic study that is done for trying to understand cancers in humans".
